The dermaroller is a multi-purpose skin rejuvenation device which naturally increases the stimulation of new collagen and elastin production in the skin.  It is used for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, acne scarring, cellulite, stretch marks and skin rejuvenation.

Dermaroller is a type of treatment that uses small needles to cause a tiny puncture in the skin. This procedure will boost the skin own repair system resulting in a firmer, softer skin with more refined texture. The needles will also create micro-channels on the skin's surface allowing for increased absorption of active ingredients used during the treatment to provide optimal results. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect.

What areas can be treated and how does it work

Dermaroller can significantly improve the appearance of acne scars, aged and sun damaged skin, uneven skin tone, facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles and stretch marks. It is a perfect treatment for face and body.

The Dermaroller is precision-engineered from titanium and features 192 surgical steel micro-needles which, when rolled across the dermis (skin), creates pin-point punctures. These tiny puncture wounds are perceived by the body as damage, beginning the onset of the natural healing process and stimulating the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. By having a number of skin needling sessions with the Dermaroller, new collagen and elastin are produced progressively, gradually filling indented scars and deep lines.

During and after the treatment

The medical device is used to produce thousands of micro-medical needle columns in the skin.  Each column will penetrate into the dermis of the skin and will be approximately 0.1mm in width.  The column will close rapidly be enabling the skin to recover quickly – often in the same day.  A topical anesthetic is used to numb the skin making the procedure comfortable; it will normally take up to 30 minutes for the topical anesthetic to work and 20 – 30 minutes for the procedure.

Side effects of Dermaroller treatments are minimal but may include post-treatment redness and, as it an injectable treatment, bruising can occur but infrequently.  Your skin may feel a little tight or sensitive for up to 24 to 48 hours following the procedure.

After a Dermaroller procedure, your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis.  This takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced.  It can take up to six weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting enhancement.

We recommend a series of 2 – 3 procedures with approximately 6 weeks between them.  In the treatment of acne scars and other types of scarring, more treatments may be required.

After the treatment, you can return to normal activities. The use of an appropriate SPF and skincare as recommended.

Aftercare advice

Immediately after your treatment, you will look as though you have a moderate sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual.  This will start to subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day. The cream is applied after the procedure to help soothe and calm the skin.

Use tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and dry gently, always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area.  It is recommended that make up is not applied for 12 hours after the procedure.  If you will be in daylight immediately after the procedure, apply a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with an SPF50 must be applied following treatment and you will need to continue to apply this on a daily basis for at least two weeks, even during the winter or on cloudy days. In the days following the treatment as the skin starts to regenerate and repair it may feel drier than normal. A simple moisturizing cream is recommended if this is the case.

The results following a treatment often take six weeks to appear and a course of three treatments about six weeks apart is often recommended.
